Summer School “Methods in Forest Ecology 2018

segnalo che il Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e dell’Ambiente dell’Università di Pavia ha organizzato a settembre 2018 una Summer School relativa alle più avanzate tecniche di campionamento e ricerca in ambienti forestali. L’attività didattica comprenderà anche esercitazioni pratiche sul campo all’interno della Riserva Naturale Integrale “Bosco Siro Negri”, nel Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino. L’Università di Pavia ha cofinanziato l’iniziativa.
Il gruppo internazionale di docenti comprende esperti ricercatori particolarmente impegnati in studi avanzati su queste tematiche.
Una parte della Scuola sarà dedicata alle tecniche di analisi dei dati ed all’uso di software dedicati allo studio delle foreste. Per questo, chi partecipa dev’essere già competente nell’uso del software statistico “R” e di programmi GIS (ArcGIS e QGIS) .
A quattro partecipanti sarà data la possibilità di non pagare la quota d’iscrizione (che sarà a carico dell’Università di Pavia) ed il numero massimo di partecipanti sarà 20.
Inoltre la partecipazione al corso prevede l’acquisizione di 12 crediti formativi (ECTS e simili).

for those of you interested in forest ecology, the registration to the International Summer School “Methods in Forest Ecology 2018” organized by the University of Pavia, is now open! (Application deadline is June 25 2018).
Place: Pavia and Ticino Valley Regional Park.
Date: 09-16 September 2018.
Maximum number of participant: 20
This summer school will provide background information, demonstrations and training in the application of the newest tools and techniques to collect data on forest community (both animal and plants) as well as quantify and analyse forest structure and dynamic.
This course includes lectures on different facets of forest ecology followed by field exercises, computer simulations and statistical analysis.
This summer school is targeted at PhD students, postdocs, researchers, foresters, forest consultants and managers interested in forest ecology and management (basic knowledge of the R statistical software and GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS, is required).
